    AI/ML Engineer — Learning Systems

    Vancouver, BC · Remote (Canada)HybridFull-time$160,000 – $210,000 CAD / year

Design the retrieval, generation and evaluation systems that let Nucleus OS teach — grounded, personalized and measurably effective.

    The role

Learning is the hardest test for AI: answers must be correct, grounded in an organization's own material, and pitched at the right level for each learner. You'll build the systems that make that happen.

You'll work on retrieval-augmented generation, curriculum and assessment generation, learner modelling and — critically — the evaluation harnesses that tell us whether learners actually got better.

    What success looks like

Within your first six months you'll have shipped improvements to our grounding pipeline, stood up offline and online evals for at least one learning workflow, and helped define how we measure learning outcomes across customers.

    What you'll do

    • Build and improve RAG pipelines over customer knowledge (chunking, embeddings, re-ranking, citations)
    • Design LLM-driven generation for programs, quizzes and tutoring with strong guardrails
    • Create offline and online evaluation frameworks for quality, grounding and learning impact
    • Partner with product engineers to take models and prompts from prototype to production
    • Track the research frontier and translate it into pragmatic product wins

    What you'll bring

    • 4+ years building ML or LLM-powered systems in production
    • Strong Python and/or TypeScript; comfortable working across services
    • Hands-on experience with vector search, embeddings and retrieval evaluation
    • A rigorous, experiment-driven approach to model and prompt quality
    • Ability to explain trade-offs clearly to non-specialists

    Nice to have

    • Background in learning science, psychometrics or adaptive learning
    • Experience with multimodal generation (speech, video, images)
    • Publications or open-source work in NLP/IR

    Benefits

    • Comprehensive extended health and dental coverage from day one
    • Meaningful equity — everyone is an owner
    • Flexible remote-first work across Canadian time zones, with a Vancouver hub
    • $1,500 CAD annual learning budget (we are a learning company, after all)
    • Home-office stipend and the hardware you need
    • Generous vacation plus a company-wide winter break
