AI tutors
How the 24/7 AI tutor answers from your content with citations, how to configure scope and escalation, and what managers can see.
Every learner gets a personal AI tutor that is available around the clock, grounded in your content, and adapts to their level. It is the attention of your best mentor, for everyone, in any language.
What the tutor does
- Answers questions in the learner's own words, using the sources behind the courses they have access to, with citations back to the exact lesson or policy.
- Explains differently on request: simpler, with an example, as a step-by-step procedure, or in another language.
- Quizzes on demand ("test me on the returns policy") and gives specific feedback.
- Remembers progress and goals, so it can suggest what to study next.
- Escalates to a human expert when a question is out of scope or needs a judgment call.
Talking to the tutor
Learners can type or speak. In a course, the learner experience offers three modes:
| Mode | What it is |
|---|---|
| Guide | A voice conversation with the tutor, for talking through a topic hands-free. |
| OS | A conversation with an AI presenter (avatar) that explains and answers questions face to face. |
| Evaluation | Practice and assessment, including role-play, with feedback at the end. |
Configuring scope
Admins decide how far the tutor may go:
| Setting | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Workspace content only (default) | Answers come from your content and are cited. Out-of-scope questions get a clear "I can't answer that from your materials" instead of a guess. |
| Workspace content plus general knowledge | The tutor may add general explanations (for example, what a term means), clearly separated from your cited content. |
Guardrails keep conversations on your content and on topic, and block categories of requests you choose.
Why citations matter
Citations let learners verify answers and let authors see which passages cause confusion. If the tutor cites the wrong passage or cannot find an answer, the source is usually missing or ambiguous; fix it there.
Escalation
Set an escalation contact per course or topic, such as a team lead, an HR partner, or a support queue. When the tutor cannot answer, or a learner asks for a person, the question is routed with context so the expert does not start from zero.
Privacy and visibility
Most organizations share aggregate insight with managers and authors, such as the most common questions and the concepts people struggle with, while keeping individual conversations private to the learner. Admins configure visibility for the workspace. See Data and privacy.
Using tutor insight
The most frequent questions are a free content-gap report. Review them weekly during a launch: each recurring question is either missing from the course or not explained clearly. Ask the analytics assistant, for example, "top tutor questions about the pricing course this week". See Asking questions.
